Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre have extended warm Eid al-Adha greetings to the Somali people and Muslims around the world, calling for national unity, forgiveness, and continued resolve in the fight against Al-Shabaab.
In his address, President Mohamud congratulated the Somali people on the festive occasion and emphasized the importance of compassion, solidarity, and forgiveness during Eid. He urged Somalis to help those in need, forgive one another, and remain vigilant in the face of threats posed by Al-Shabaab militants.
โThe Khawarij have spilled the blood of our people and looted our nation. They are a barrier to Somaliaโs progress and stability,โ the President said, using the term “Khawarij” to refer to Al-Shabaab.
He also extended a presidential amnesty offer to young members of Al-Shabaab who wish to surrender and reintegrate into society.
โOn this blessed day, any youth within Al-Shabaab who wants to return to their people will be granted amnesty. This is an opportunity for peace and reconciliation,โ said President Hassan Sheikh.
The president highlighted his administrationโs commitment to completing the provisional constitution and shifting Somalia toward direct elections.
โWe cannot remain stagnant with a draft constitution and indirect voting system for three decades. The national dialogue platform remains open and will always be open to all,โ he added.
President Mohamud also expressed deep gratitude to the Somali National Army and local community forces engaged in the ongoing fight against terrorism, praising their bravery and sacrifices.
Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre echoed the Presidentโs sentiments, extending Eid greetings to all Somalis and Muslims worldwide, with special recognition for the armed forces fighting on the front lines.
โWe salute our valiant armed forces who defend our religion, our country, and our people. Their sacrifices are the foundation of our national security and future,โ the Prime Minister stated.
The leadersโ Eid messages come at a time of heightened security efforts across Somalia, with ongoing military operations and preparations for the National Consultation Forum set for June 15, 2025โa critical step in shaping Somaliaโs political future.
