President Supports Palestinian Cause, Welcomes Lifting of Sanctions on Syria

BAGHDAD, May 17 โ€“ The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, participated on Friday in the 34th Arab League Summit held in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, where he emphasized the need for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state and welcomed the lifting of international sanctions on Syria.

โ€œThere can be no more occupation โ€” a sovereign Palestinian state must be established,โ€ President Hassan Sheikh declared while addressing Arab leaders gathered at the summit. He underscored Somaliaโ€™s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause amid escalating tensions in the region.

The president also expressed Somaliaโ€™s solidarity with the Syrian government, applauding steps taken to ease the sanctions previously imposed on the country.

โ€œWe welcome the lifting of sanctions on Syria,โ€ he stated, aligning his message with the position of several Arab nations seeking to reintegrate Syria into the regional diplomatic landscape.

President Hassan Sheikhโ€™s remarks come at a time when Arab leaders are attempting to set aside their differences to forge a unified stance on longstanding regional issues, including the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and Syriaโ€™s evolving role within the Arab world.
